N4G Newsletter - Spring 2025

Hello everyone! What a fantastic week we've had—beautiful blue skies and plenty of sunshine, just what we needed! After a few months of hibernation, it's time to get out and enjoy activities beyond home, and we want to make that possible for everyone. To help us create a calendar of activities that suits your interests and needs, we’d love your input. Keep an eye out for our short survey coming your way soon — we’d really appreciate your feedback!

To list a few things that are taking place...

  • The Harpenden Trust based in Southdown offer many activities in their halls ranging from sit down exercises, U3A classes, coffee mornings and day trips, if you want further information you can check out their website: https://www.theharpendentrust.org.uk/ or call them on 01582 460457

  • You may have seen our Ad on the side of the Hopper bus. The bus covers a wide area of Harpenden and they use the normal bus stops to pick up and drop off. The buses have wide opening doors although drivers are not trained to handle wheelchairs but are happy to assist passengers when boarding and alighting, the charge is £2.00 per journey, for more information call 01582 638007

  • Wesley’s café in the High Street, is open Monday to Saturday between 10am to 12pm and open for Soup-er Thursdays 12 till 1.30pm for soup.

  • Lea Grange on Coldharbour Lane have many activities, They are holding a coffee morning to raise money for Marie Curie on the 17th March, if you would like to join in register your interest by contacting Sarah on 01727 223600 or contact us at N4G if you would like us to accompany you.

  • Don’t forget the Seniors Fair to be held on the 9th April at the EMC, we will be there along with many other exhibitors, charities and companies that offer an array of support for the older community, look out for our stall and come and say hello.

  • Thursday 8 May marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the day which in 1945 saw the end of war in Europe and the beginning of the end of WWII. At 9.30pm, parishes across the country will light a beacon to signify the light of peace emerging from the darkness of war. Our Beacon will be on Harpenden Common (near the Harpenden Arms) when a tribute will be read out by the Town Mayor as the beacon is lit and we join all those across the nation in singing “I Vow to Thee My Country” followed by the National Anthem.

  • Have you visited the BANKING HUB yet! They are open Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, you can pay in cash & cheques, withdraw cash, check your balance, pay bills and receive advice and support. Also, community bankers from 5 High Street banks are available in person to offer support and advice.

  • New parking charges in Harpenden have been a big talking point. Looking at all the spaces around town it seems people are walking in or shopping elsewhere. It will take some time for us to accept but as everything we will come round. Check here for more information.
